New Orleans Avoids Katrina Repeat; Houma Hit Hard

Hurricane Gustav made landfall near Houma, Louisiana. The Wikipedia entry lists the damage estimate at $20 billion. Both FEMA and the Bush administration acted very early on Gustav to try and ensure that the failures of 2005 with Hurricane Katrina were not repeated. Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans also worked extremely hard to evacuate the city. Fortunately, the levees held and there was not catastrophic flooding inside the city of New Orleans. However, there was significant damage to the southwest of the city. The video below shows some of the damage in the hard hit city of Houma, Louisiana.
