India Rocked by Series of Bombs
Posted on July 26, 2008A series of bomb explosions have hit parts of India killing nearly 40 people. The explosions were similar to a bomb series that happened last Friday. The BBC reports that the deadly explosions hit the western Indian city of Ahmedabad.
At least 38 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded after a series of explosions struck the western Indian city of Ahmedabad, officials have said.It is unclear who is behind the bombings but some experts believe the people doing this are trying to stir up trouble between Hindus and Muslims. India is now on high alert over the possibility of yet more attacks. A chronology of major bomb blasts in India can be found here.
Seventeen blasts within an hour hit residential areas, crowded markets, a train station and a bus in Gujarat state's commercial capital, they added.
It is thought the explosions were caused by crudely-made devices hidden in boxes and on bicycles.
On Friday a series of similar blasts hit the southern city of Bangalore.
The Ahmedabad explosions came in two waves - the first occurring over a 20-minute period from about 1830 (1300 GMT).
